The concept of Havilah has evolved over a number of years, with the growing certainty amongst the founders (individually and corporately) that economic growth in a prosperous nation cannot exist if any sector of the economic active population is practically excluded from entry to the economy.
Limiting factors may have been/are/might be:

"Academic achievement" in the traditional sense
Gender
Poor socio-economic environment
No, or limited financial track record, that makes access to capital impossible

In the developed world, the interaction possibility between corporate business and SME's is navigable to ordinary citizens. There is a myriad of social, economic and educational reasons that enable this. The current world economic view that "SME's drive the economy" is built on this very principle.
In South Africa, (and in the emerging economies) the gap between SME's and the formal economy is a chasm, with very limited chance of breaching. Especially if one's background falls within the "limiting factors" parameters.
Havilah will close that gap. We will provide the Technical Training and Enterprise Development as part of our package, together with an integrated technology environment that will support and enable ordinary people over a period of time, to achieve extra ordinary things in their own lifetime.

The social responsibility of corporate citizens has (in recent years, and rightly so) achieved a far more important status than purely the primary "return on equity" goal. Most corporate citizens nowadays have a Corporate and Social Responsibility department that deals with Enterprise Development, Training and other interventions.
